reviewed and approved with a motion from Cathy Gust and seconded by Ronda
Moore.

Treasurer’s
Report:
The All-Pro Dad’s breakfast that was sponsored by the PTO
incurred expenses totaling $250.00.

New
Business:
Giant Rewards so far this year total $312.69.  Last year at
this time the amount was $119.00.

Box
Tops- The next collection is stated for February 10th.  The last
collection earned $570.00 with the 2nd grade class collecting the
most and earning an ice cream party.

Science
Night- Postponed to March 1st, 2012 from 6:30-8 PM in the High School
science rooms.

Family
Reading Night- Mrs. Reiner will be hosting this event on January 27th
from 6:30-8 PM.  PTO will provide Baron cookies and pretzels or goldfish.  These
items will be purchased through food services, as well as the paper products
needed.

Talent
Show- Will be held February 28th at the Middle School.  Practice for
the Talent Show will be held on February 23rd.

Parent

developed to assist the administrators in meeting parents’ child-care needs.
Please take the time to fill out this important survey.

On
June 9th, the Manheim Community Downtown Development organization is
hosting a community fair.  The PTO was asked to provide and run two-three
carnival games during the event. We would borrow games from Burgard and we would
need to have volunteers run the games. More details will follow.

Principal’s
Report:
Dr. Hancock wanted to thank all of the very generous families
of Stiegel that donated gift cards and money this holiday season to help our
still-struggling families that were victims of the flooding this past Fall.

On
January 17th there will be an assembly based on the book by Carol
McCloud, A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids. The book promotes
increasing the self-esteem of others through kind words and actions. This
assembly is part of the ongoing anti-bullying program, Olweus.

Dr.
Hancock stressed the importance of having the students’ coats, hats and lunch
bags labeled.  Please take the time to mark your child’s things so the teachers
and aids can easily and quickly identify the items and get them to the right
child.

Muffins
with Mom and Donuts with Dad will be held the week of March 5. Preparations are
being made for food.

Other
Business:
The Stiegel Yearbook is currently being sold for $10.00.  The
orders can be done online or they can be sent in with your student.  Families
also have the opportunity to purchase yearbooks for other Stiegel families that
may have difficulty paying for them.  These “Angel Tree” gift forms will go home
with the students and can be purchased online or sent in to school.

We
discussed the possibility of having a fitness class at Stiegel once a week. Most
people were in favor of having a class that their kids could participate in as
well. If anyone has any suggestions please contact Angie Barbush at bushclan77@dejazzd.com.

The
next PTO meeting is scheduled for February 6th at 6:30 PM in the
library.

The
meeting was adjourned at 7:03PM.

Respectfully
submitted,

Paula
D’Angelo

Dear Stiegel Families,

As you know we have many families in need.  Some were affected by the flood in September and others are struggling, and have been, to make ends meet.  We are writing to ask if you are interested in donating money or a gift card (for example to Weis, Wallmart or Target) to one of our families.

If you are interested, please send in your donation of $ or gift card to your child’s teacher.  Any amount is appreciated!  If you have a particular family in mind, please indicate that with your gift.  If not, we will make sure we connect the gifts with families who need help.

Thank you in advance!

Dr. Hancock

Hope everyone is having a great week.  We are asking that you please DO NOT send in any paper towel/toilet rolls for the recycling closet.  We have plenty right now!!!!  We will send out another email when we get low.  Thanks for sending in all the items, this is a great help to the teachers.

Stiegel PTO minutes for October 17, 2011

Attending:  Angie Barbush, Nichole McCabe, Carrie Connelly, Holly Weaver, Dana Miller, Ronda Moore, Kelly Neifert, Stephanie Hartzler, Sue Kopp, Wendy Hancock, Cathy Gust, Michelle Stone, Lisa Ginder and Paula D’Angelo.

The meeting was called to order at 6:34 PM by Angie Barbush.

Secretary’s Report:  The minutes  from the September 19, 2011 meeting were reviewed and approved with a motion by Cathy Gust and seconded by Holly Weaver.

Treasurer’s Report:  The budget needs to be revised to cover student field trips.  Approximately $3,000 will be moved out of savings into the checking account to be available for field trip expenses.  Money donated to buy stamps to use for Race for Education will be used to buy stamps now for use in the 2012 Race for Education mailers.

Old Business:  All-Pro Dads had record attendance.  The Getting Kids Fit assembly was positively received by the students and faculty.  Based on very positive feedback from parents and students, Family Fun Night was a big success.  Over 100 students and siblings were in attendance.  The games were planned for outside but had to be moved inside due to the weather.  It all worked out very well as far as space and the variety of activities for the students.  The Cake Walk was especially enjoyed—a big thanks to all who doted items for this event.  The carnival games were borrowed from Doe Run and Burgard.  The possibility of buying our own games in the future was brought up.

New Business:

Flood Victims:  Dr. Hancock reported that Stiegel families have been generous in responding to the needs of those Stiegel families that have been displaced due to the recent flooding.  Sheila Wagner is organizing the effort and has reported that we have helped one victim pay an outstanding electric bill, and helped others with the distribution of donated gift cards.  Donations will continue to be accepted as the needs are ongoing.

Most helpful are gift cards from Weis, Lowes, Walmart and other local stores.

School Directory-  Sending the directory electronically was discussed.  This would save money and trees.  The paper copies will be available in the next few weeks after the copier is repaired at Stiegel.  Only those families that have listed their information in the directory will receive the electronic or paper copy.

Roller Skating Party-  This annual event will take place on November 12, 2011 from 9-12 at the Mount Gretna Roller Rink.  There is no admission fee, but there is a $2.00 skate rental.  You may bring rollerblades but the black stoppers must be removed. All are welcome!

Boxtops-  Pam Cassel is tallying the final numbers for the most recent collection.  The next collection will take place in December.  The winning class or classes will get an ice cream party.

Room Moms-  Heather Zeamer has requested that the teachers give her the names of their room mom’s for contact capability.  Kaylene Brubaker will shadow Heather and take over the as Room Mom Coordinator for next year.

Staff Luncheon-  Fall staff luncheon is cancelled.  PTO might host an end of the year luncheon or breakfast, or perhaps do something during staff appreciation week (depends on funds in the budget).

Holiday Workshop-  This event is being organized by Nichole McCabe, Cynthia Setlock and Dana Miller.

Committee Chairs:

Yearbook-  Carrie Connelly will look into doing online ordering for yearbooks which will eliminate the need for someone to help her with orders.

Principal’s Report:  The Olweus  anti-bullying program is having its kick-off event on Friday, October 21, 2011.  There will be a parade led by some of the High School band members which will include all of the students.  The teachers will be wearing special Olweus t-shirts and the 4th graders will be carry signs holding the Olweus rules.

An Alert Now will be going out to all Stiegel families to inform them that when their child is absent a call home will be made to notify the family.  This is an attempt to reduce truancy within the district.

Other Business:  Mrs. Reiner will be organizing a “Reading Night’ event at Stiegel.  This event may include community guest readers, book bingo, a book swap, trivia games and snacks and prizes.  Potential dates for this event were discussed, and January 27th was suggested as a possibility.  More information will be coming.  There is no PTO scheduled for November.

The next PTO meeting will be on December 5th at 6:30 PM in the Library.

The meeting adjourned at 7:25 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Paula D’Angelo
