So what’s 6th grade Tech Ed all about?

So what’s 6th grade Technology and Engineering Education all about?

Sixth grade students will come to Tech Ed every other day for one marking period.  The following units will be covered in our  22 days:

Safety in the Lab
Students learn the rules and safety considerations of a room very different than any other they’ll enter this year.

 Technology and Engineering Education
Students learn about Technology and engineering and their historical significance.

Levers and Pulleys
A sizeable portion of the 22 days will be spent learning about these two very important simple machines.  Hands-on-learning, in a team will be how the students will learn about levers and pulleys.  There will be two unit tests which will be a very significant part of each student’s grade in Tech and Engineering Ed!

HydroAeroStyroSailBoat
Teams of two students will learn and apply science, math, engineering, language arts and technology along the way:  A hands-on engineering unit that explores the technology behind boats with each team making a boat and testing its performance.

Time permitting
InventorBrief–students might explore a famous inventor via a PowerPoint.

So what’s 8th grade Tech Ed all about?

So what’s 8th grade Technology and Engineering Education all about?

Eighth grade students will come to Tech Ed every other day for one marking period.  The following units will be covered in our  22 days:

Safety in the Lab Unit
Students learn the rules and safety considerations of a room very different than any other they’ll enter this year.

Technology and Engineering Education Unit
Students learn more about Technology and engineering and their historical significance.

BaronBrainGame Unit
This manufacturing unit will have each student make a triangular game with golf tees to take home.  Power and hand tools are used after safety training and demonstrations.

CO2 Dragster Problem Solving Unit
Each student will make a dragster out of basswood.  In this problem solving unit students will attempt to make their dragster go fast, be aerodynamic and look good.  Hand and power tools are used extensively.  Each dragster will be tested in our wind tunnel for aerodynamics and raced on our 60 foot long race track.

Levers and Pulleys Unit
This unit will be an update/refresher of the content each student would have learned in 6th grade – just in time for the 8th grade science PSSA!
