Welcome to Fifth Grade Music Class
In fifth grade, our classroom music students study the elements of music, including form. We compare the form of the various selections of music that we sing and learn new ways in which composers write music and determine the form of these songs. We also study the spirituals sung in the United States and sing many spirituals. The students learn about the life and music of George F. Handel and the music of Handel that is still heard, played, and sung today. We also sing seasonal music throughout the year.
We have begun to study the elements of music through songs that we will be singing for the next several weeks in class. As we sing these songs we will learn the way that the composers have decided to ‘shape’ their selections to create their music.
In sixth grade music class, we continue our study of the elements of music including melody, harmony, beat, rhythm, and form. We study in the context of the history and culture in which it was written to better understand how the 1900′s shaped and changed the music of these decades. We also study keyboard instruments and the tone of each of the instruments and the differences in the tone of each of these instruments.
The life and music of Beethoven is the composer chosen for sixth grade. We learn about the music that is sung and played today and the impact that he had on the history of music for all time.
We also sing seasonal music throughout the year.
