I am excited to be working with 6th grade for the 2011 to 2012 school year.
PSSA testing starts today. The students will be completing a section per day for the next 6 days. Since the students will be working so hard each day, I will not be assigning any homework this week. Please remind your child to get a good breakfast each day.
We are hosting a student teacher from January through March 11th. Mrs. Minnich comes to us from Millersville University and will be graduating this spring. She will be teaching a persuasive writing unit for both English blocks.
Sunday November 21st is the 5K run for our girls who participate in GOT. It is the Millersville Turkey Trot - please support your classmates!
I still have not recieved many reading logs from the students. Each child should be reading 20 minutes EVERY NIGHT and recording what they have read on their reading log sheet. They should also be writing a short summary of what they have read.
Homework club (HAT) starts next week. If the students are not completing their homework, they will be going to HAT club during their lunch period. Students will get thier lunch and report to the area outside the nurses station to complete work. Parent helpers are there to assist as needed.
As the marking period comes to a close, the students need to make sure that they hand in all of their work. I need 1 book report and a final copy of their “How To” writing by Friday.
Mod 2 started this week…. check with your child to see what class they are now taking!
This week was the first time we went to the library as a class to pick out a personal reading book. The students were instructed on how to pick out a book on their reading level. Some students have already finished a book from before and are working on their first book report.
Starting this week our homework will now include reading for 20 minutes. They will need to write a small summary (2 sentences about what they have read) The students need to be reading a book at their reading level. If they need help selecting a book they can see me. When they have completed their book, they will need to work on a book report activity.
Each student will continue to work on a spelling packet for the week. They will need to complete their packet by Friday. This is to help them learn their new words. The packet is paced for them to complete a page a night.
I am so excited about our fall season of Girls On Track. We have two teams of about 25 girls from grade 6 to 8. One team is coached by Mrs. Catherine Graham, Mrs. Candice Suarez, Miss Meghan Babcock, and Miss Shea Carmany. The second team is coached by Mrs. Nancy Stoltzfus, Miss Hillary Gernert, Mrs. Shannon Paules, and Miss Ashley Heffner. This is truly a wonderful program for young girls to interact in a positive way and to set goals for healthy living!
