Welcome to the Middle School Friends of Rachel club blog. We hope you enjoy visiting this site to learn about Rachel and how the students and staff of MCMS are keeping her legacy alive with kindness, compassion and caring.
Recently, the MCMS entered a contest through the nationwide Rachel’s Challenge organization. Schools were encouraged to post pictures on the FOR Facebook page of how they are promoting kindness and compassion.
Pictures of our FOR members connecting and hanging chains were submitted. Dana Scott, Rachel’s sister, recently contacted us to let the members know their school was selected as the winner! All FOR members will receive a bracelet and static clings.
The prizes were sent, along with a very nice note:
Dear MCMS FOR Club,
CONGRATULATIONS to MCMS!! We saw your pictures on Facebook and we are so proud of all of you for “starting a chain reaction”! The most important thing to us, here at Rachel’s Challenge, is for you to remember how important you are, how special you are and how you can make such a positive difference in this world. The kind words and actions they you wrote on your links ARE making an impact and we are so thankful that each of you has taken Rachel’s message to heard! Keep going on that AMAZING chain & we hope you enjoy the bracelets and chains…Our way of saying THANK YOU! Sincerely, Dana Scott & Rachel’s Challenge
The students of MCMS are busy displaying the chains of kindness in the MS hallways. It is so great to read all the ways the students have displayed acts of kindness both at home and here at school! Way to go!!
The Friends of Rachel club members are busy working on another project to promote compassion and caring throughout the school!
The FOR students recently visted every classroom to explain about the Chains of Kindness activity. Students and staff were given paper strips and a collection bag. As students do an act of kindness, they are asked to fill out the strips of paper…red for an act of kindness that has been displayed at school, green if it was done outside of school (helping a neighbor, visiting a sick friend or family member, helping with yard work, etc). FOR members are collecting them every week and adding to the chain.
Our goal is to start the chain in the cafeteria, wind through the hallway and end up in the upstairs office area before the holiday break.
Stay tuned for updates to see how long our chain has reached!
Attached is a copy of Rachel’s Code of Ethics that she displayed throughout her life and touched so many people.
Our MS Friends of Rachel club members did a GREAT job during the Manheim Farm Show parade! The students handed out candy & flyers to let Manheim know what the F.O.R club was all about. The support we received from the crowds were awesome
A big THANK YOU goes out to: Mrs. Clair Graybill, Longeneckers Hardware, Mr. Rick Nolt, Mr. Kevin Lamphere, Mr. Dennis Snavely and the staff and parents of MCMS.
