JUMP ROPE FOR HEART 2012 – A HUGE SUCCESS!!!

During the week of February 6th to 10th, the 5th and 6th grade students  participated in their annual fundraiser, Jump Rope for Heart (JRFH). The theme for this year’s JRFH event was “It Takes Heart to Be a Hero.” I can tell you that our 5th and 6th graders certainly are great heart heroes.

The grand total for JRFH this year was the MOST we have ever raised for the American Heart Association: $4870.31  !!!

The JRFH program  mixes physical fitness with community service. Jump Rope for Heart gives us a chance to stress how important physical fitness is in helping to prevent heart attack and stroke, while at the same time encouraging the students to raise money for a good cause.

Before the event, several students helped to create this year’s “Heart Wall”. At the end of the event, all fundraisers proudly signed their names on the hearts on the heart wall.

Our top fundraisers were special heart heroes:

1st place: 5th grader Hailey with $455

2nd place: 5th grader Lexi  with $266

  3rd place: 6th grader Jared with $264

The 6th Grade raised $1569 for the American Heart Association. The 5th graders were proud of themselves because they beat the 6th graders. The 5th graders raised an amazing total of $3301.31.

Congratulations to all our fundraisers for a job well done.

Fitness Testing Starting Soon!

Physical Fitness testing through “The President’s Challenge” will begin the week right after Easter Vacation. Students will be tested in five areas of physical fitness. As stated back in September, this testing is graded. Students should have been exercising and working on their physical fitness in an effort to improve.

Students, remember to check out the fitness testing info on the left hand side of my blog under ‘Categories”. Click on “Fitness Testing Info” and “Presidential and National” for information you can use to prepare for the tests. The scores will help you set your goals for your gender and your age as of May 1st.

Work hard and “Good Luck”!!!
