No, I’m not telling you to leave me alone, but I am asking you to consider making this winter a little brighter by taking a walk every day. After dinner would be a superb time to walk for about 45 minutes with family and/or friends. If you try this, I can almost guarantee you’ll be looking forward to these strolls within a couple of weeks. By the time the grass is starting to grow, you’ll be much more ready to tackle a game of tennis, a weedy garden or that shabby trim that’s needed painted forever.
So, FINALLY listen to the teacher and, “TAKE A HIKE!”

Then build up his/her self esteem and self image. For 50% of students, how they view themselves, their abilities and their talents is the single most important factor to determine and affect educational success.
Pat them on the back, give out compliments, show them you care, encourage discussion about their successes and their trials, let them know how important they are, value their opinions, ask for their help and advice and ALWAYS LET THEM KNOW THEY ARE UNCONDITIONALLY LOVED AND VALUED FOR WHO THEY ARE.
Let’s set a goal that 100% of the Manheim Central students will be uplifted and cared for and cared about by all of the adults in their lives. Let it start with you!

Those 4 words are the motto in my classroom. Please, thank you and you’re welcome are always used; and there are 3 signs with these words posted. Two are hung in the front as a reminder for the children, and the one in the back is for me. Respect, dignity and kindness are traits societies always strive to increase but sadly, we too often find these in scarce supply in our homes, towns and lives. As this special season begins, let’s all make an effort to be a kinder and harder-working person.

This past year seems an especially tragic and sorrowful time for our school district and community. Few if any of us could have imagined the stunning and heart-breaking calamities of 2011. As we enter this final month and a half of the year, I hope and pray you may find reasons to give thanks, rejoice, love and renew your mind, body and soul for a, hopefully, blessed 2012.

The day before every math assessment, I offer the students an effective way to study and also earn extra credit. I write a 10 to 15 question assignment on the board. Students who do this earn 1 point. If a parent signs the paper, the student earns 2 points.
On our most recent test, 15 or the 16 students who chose to do extra credit earned a B or an A. Of the 64 who did not, every grade from A to F was earned.
Studying, being prepared and doing more than the minimum makes a difference wheter you’re 12 or 82 and every age in between.
