looking forward to the week of Jan. 30th

We began the 3rd marking period looking at weathering and soil formation. We brainstormed what soil is used for in our lives and realize it is about a lot more than just plants.  Homework was to bring in a soil sample, which we will spend a few days investigating.

Homework:  Make sure you are ready to present on Thursday!     Study for yellow packet quiz on Friday!

Week of January 9th, 2012

Last week we finished up our study of minerals and rocks with a 2 part quiz on Thursday.  We ended the week with an introduction to fossils and geologic time.  This week we will study fossils, fossil fuels, and relative dating.

Homework:

Monday = geologic time mini-poster due tomorrow!

Tuesday = current event due Thursday.

I believe my News Years Resolution should be to remember to post to this blog every day…

Today in class we reviewed and took our fossils quiz.  Time after the quiz was spent working on mind maps, writing note cards, and just overall getting ready for group fossil fuels presentations on Monday.  Monday is the last day of science for the first group for marking period 2!!!  Tuesday starts marking period 2 for the second group!!!

Wednesday, November 30

Today in class we viewed a video introduction the Geologic Time and glimpses of Earth’s history.  Each student chose a random period from the Geologic Time Scale and researched aspects of that time periods land, sea, climate, and life.    This leads up to a mini-poster displaying their time period.

Homework: Current Event due tomorrow!

Geologic Time mini-poster due Friday!    You should have chosen to either do this by hand or on the computer at home using the template found on the science Moodle

Monday, November 21 and Tuesday, November 22

Today in class we reviewed our rock concepts, specifically texture and foliation.  Tuesday we will explore mining concepts and our use of some minerals and rocks in society.

Homework: Option due Tuesday.  Green packet quiz on the day we return from break.  current Event due 12/1
